Scott Tyrrel on staff with Local 259
We are pleased to announce that Vice President Scott Tyrrel is now a full time representative of our Union. We ask that all of you work with Scott in the future with his assignments. Scott was employed by Syosset Ford as an A Technician since 1981, where he served as Chief Steward for the last 15 years. It was in 1995 when Scott was elected by the membership to serve on the Union's Executive Board and in 2009 he was elected to serve as Vice President. He has great experience with regards to the day to day issues that arise in our shops, being that his boss was quite difficult to deal with. His assignments at the Local will include servicing, organizing, political action and collective bargaining. Additionally, once the International Union decides its organizing initiative with a transnational OEM, Scott shall serve as the site coordinator for whatever actions may be required and he will be asking you for assistance.
Since joining our staff, Vice President Tyrrel has traveled to five different states representing our Local, has been involved directly with eight different bargaining campaigns, provided testimony at one Arbitration hearing and has been assisting with the organizing efforts at Englewood Chevrolet.
Just after the New Year, Scott traveled with President Schneck to New Hampshire and joined a team of 60 UAW members from our Region to participate in the UAW Region 9A Political Training, (Boot Camp). He took part in knocking on doors in order to turn out the vote for President Obama in advance of the Primary Election on January 10th. Before and after the get out the vote work, the UAW Team pursued Willard MITT Romney throughout the state. The Team successfully agitated Mitt Witt at six different campaign stops where we called him out for being nothing more than a chop shop corporate raider. See our YouTube video @ www.uawlocal259.org (Video #2 of 16)
So, you can see that Vice President Tyrrel has been fully engaged since coming on our staff on December 1st and has been building everyday on the solid foundation of unionism he already possessed. We are confident that with the addition of Vice President Tyrrel to our staff that our Union will become more aggressive and efficient in organizing, building power and winning justice for our membership!
